In some cases, it may take little more than the words of another party to prompt an investigation into the possible presence of unlawful activity. When authorities receive reports of suspicious activity, they may have a duty to investigate the matter. A 40-year-old man is facing drug charges after a local business owner called authorities to report suspicious behavior outside of a store in Massachusetts.

Incident reports

Reports indicate that authorities received a call on a recent Wednesday from a local business owner with concerns about a man exhibiting suspicious behavior outside the store. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities say they found the man behind the store and they say that he had several bags with him. While speaking with the man, authorities allegedly discovered him to be in possession of unspecified types of drug paraphernalia.

It remains unclear as to whether authorities proceeded to search the bags, but they claim to have uncovered the presence of cocaine and fentanyl during this investigation. The man was taken into custody soon thereafter and is currently facing multiple charges of drug possession. Those who stand accused of such offenses might be left in search of advice on their rights and options and on the next steps to take to prepare for the subsequent process.

Rights and options

Facing drug charges can be harrowing in any situation and those who encounter such challenges might benefit from retaining the services of an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can examine the charges and evidence against a client and provide guidance in making informed choices about his or her options. Seeking such advice may prove integral to helping a person in Massachusetts prepare to pursue the best outcome achievable regarding his or her future given the circumstances.
