There may be a great deal of responsibility that comes with the role of managing the financial affairs of an employer. While the weight of such a position can be stressful enough on its own, should companies identify discrepancies in financial records, dealing with an ensuing investigation could prove far more daunting in nature. An investigation into allegations of a scheme that allegedly led to the theft of nearly $8 million from Keolis has left two men in Massachusetts facing numerous fraud charges.

Fraud investigation

According to reports, two men stand accused of using fraudulent means to steal money from the rail service company over a period of seven years. Investigators claim that a former employee of Keolis used access to company funds to purchase items for a construction company owned by the other man. They assert that the other party would then file false invoices for these items and keep a portion of the profits obtained in the process.

Authorities also assert that the two men used company funds to purchase copper wire from various vendors, only to steal the wire and sell it for profit. They claim that the men stole nearly $8 million in total from the company over this period. Reports indicate that both men face charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud following the investigation.

Fraud charges

Those who face fraud charges under such a scenario and remain uncertain of how to approach the situation might find it helpful to consider retaining the services of an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney in Massachusetts can work toward protecting a client’s legal rights and provide guidance in making informed choices about his or her situation and options. Such guidance could prove essential to helping a person understand what is at stake and prepare to pursue the best outcome achievable regarding his or her future during court proceedings.
